PRESENTING/TEACHING TOOLS

Each VIT studio is equipped with an overhead camera which replaces the need for a chalkboard or flip charts. Properly formatted printed materials are vital for a successful presentation. Print Format Sheet. If you have existing transparencies, they can be used by placing them on top of a sheet of plain paper. Transparencies should be in the same format as any other written material used.

Computers are available at each studio complete with internet connectivity. If you have a Power Point presentation you can bring it in on a cd and use our computers. Each studio has a Visual Concert FX (VCFX) projector which allows computer images to be projected onto a screen . The Newport studio utilizes a large monitor to achieve the same effect.

We have found that the VCFX works best under certain conditions. For that reason, we have compiled a list of recommendations for you:

  1. Please, if at all possible, use the VIT studio computers, rather than your own. We ask this for two important reasons: a. This minimizes the opportunity for technical problems. b .The VCFX works best with the pre-defined resolution setting on the VIT computers.
  2. Please bring a 3.5 “ floppy disk, a "finalized" CD-R or RW, a Zip disk or a USB flash card (key) with the presentation. (Note: the studio computers are connected to the internet so you can display web pages as needed.)
  3. If you must use your own laptop, you will need to contact your liaison to schedule a test on our system well before the date of your actual event. Display resolutions must be set at 1028 x 768 or LOWER and the refresh rate cannot exceed 60 HZ. Presenters MUST know how to activate their external VGA ports. If your computer is a Macintosh, you must also bring a VGA adapter.
  4. Another option to ensure your presentation will be ready for viewing is
to e-mail your slide slow ONE WEEK in advance to your Liaison. We will
load it onto the VIT laptop and make sure it works. Please note the largest
sized slide show/PowerPoint we can accept via e-mail is 8MB.

We have the capability of both recording and showing DVDs and videotapes. If you plan to show a DVD or videotape please notify your liaison before the event so we can make arrangements to preview it before your program. If it is not previewed prior to your program, VIT cannot be responsible for its quality. If a DVD/videotape is not of high quality, the picture may break up during the playback and the remote sites will not be able to see it. Be prepared to cover or fill the time planned for the DVD/videotape in the case that it does not play well.

Audio tapes can be played over the system, but you will have to supply the audio cassette player. We can also show photographic slides if that is your preference, but you will need to bring in your own projector, carousel and screen.
